The FBI and serial killers

Yes, there are still killers at large today that the FBI has not been able to catch yet. The United States has a constant supply of serial killers to keep the FBI busy in their search. You will find a few of the creepiest ones in this article.

At any given point in time there are around 50 serial killers currently active in the United States of America. An individual that commits three or more murders over the course of a month span or more is considered to be a serial killer. Those serial killers are not the only ones found to be on the FBI most wanted list, they certainly are one of the scariest types of people to be found on it. Let’s look at some of the most wanted FBI killers of all time. Some of these individuals are still out there and on the most FBI wanted list!

 

Louisiana is generally the highest serial killer count per 100,000 people living in the state. On the other end of the spectrum, South Dakota reports the lowest number of currently active serial killers on average for any one year. this is from a report done on serial killers by state in the year of 2022. This report showed more than seven current and active serial killers in the state of Louisiana, but less than two in South Dakota.

Now it makes sense why Louisiana is so prominently pictured in horror movies and scary stories. They are literally the state with the most serial killers on average at any one given point in time. Yikes!

 


Angel Resendez

 

This man was also known as the railroad killer. this man committed more than 20 horrible crimes, including violent murders. this criminal used trains to get around the country from state to state. He would jump off of the trains that he was using and commit his murders near the railroad tracks. once he committed his violent crimes in the homes of the victims, he would stick around to eat the food from their fridge and pantries and steel objects of sentimental value. on certain specific occasions, he stole jewelry from his murder victims’ homes, and re-gifted them to his sister and mother. he was caught eventually thanks to the information provided by his sister once she saw him on the FBI’s top 10 most wanted list. On the 27th of June in 2006 he was put to death.

 


The Craigslist Ripper AKA The Long Island Killer - Unknown & still at large

 

This killer is also known as the craigslist killer or the craigslist ripper, as well as the Long Island killer. This person is thought to have killed over 15 people over a span of 20 years. most or all of the victims from this killer were known to be sex workers that used craigslist in order to acquire their clients. The body of the first victim from this killer was found in 2010, and in around the same area over the next couple of years several other bodies were found. this killer is currently still at large and unknown to authorities. this place is the unknown killer firmly on the FBI’s most wanted list.

 


Rodney Alcala

 

Rodney was convicted and sentenced to death on charges of five total murders. he committed these murders in the late 1970s in California. not only this, but he pleaded guilty to two additional murders in New York, which added 25 to life on top of the sentencing. Rodney avoided the top of the FBI’s most wanted list due to his charm factor. in fact, Rodney was once on a dating game TV show. The craziest part about Rodney, appearing on a dating game. TV show is the fact that he actually won the show in the end. after the show was over and aired the woman on the dating TV show refused to go on the actual date with Rodney. She said it was because he was far too creepy for her to actually go on the date after all. Women’s intuition, huh? authorities, believe that the number of victims could be much higher from this individual. recently, at 77 years old, Rodney passed away in prison.

John Lee Malvo & John Allen Muhammed

 

also, known as the DC snipers these two individuals once on the FBI’s most wanted list were father and son. killing 10 people and injuring three more over the course of three weeks in 2002. They were even more known victims prior to this rampage of theirs. their victims were chosen at random in public places doing menial every day tasks. The father was sentenced to death in 2003 and the sentence was carried out in full in 2009. The son, on the other hand, was sentenced to six life sentences.

 


Robert Hansen

 

This killer is one of the worst in Alaskan history and was also known as the Butcher Baker. for more than 10 years, Robert would kidnap women and release them in the woods, where he would hunt them as prey. other than the crimes that he was committing in secret, Robert was a community baker and frequently visited church sessions. this helped him stay off of the authorities, radar and the FBI most wanted list for some time. A woman actually escaped from Roberts hunting escapades and was able to get to authorities. Once the authorities had this tipoff, they were able to compile evidence and obtain a search and seizure warrant on Robert’s home in order to make the arrest. This man is known to have killed more than 15 different women and was sentenced to multiple life sentences with no chance of parole.

 


William Bonin

 

Known to have taken the lives of over 20 men William was also said to have several accomplices over different periods of time during these murders. He is also sad to be connected to more than 15 other murders, but the authorities do not have enough evidence to convict him of them yet. These murders were done in the late 1970s in California. This man, William, was also known as the freeway killer. This is due to the location of the bodies that were found to be mostly along the freeway. William was actually caught in the act by authorities that were surveilling him after suspicion arose of his actions. William confessed to one of the murders in order to receive a hamburger from authorities when he was getting interrogated. He told the authorities that he did not confess to this murder for closure reasons on the famili’s side for the victim. He said he knew that if he told authorities that he would confess he would be able to receive a hamburger, and that is the only reason that he cared to confess his murder. In 1996, William was put to death.

 


Israel Keyes

 

Israel chose his victims at random all across the United States. He even left what he called “kill kits” all across the United States in different hidden areas and spots located in various states. he stated that this way if someone came across his everyday life that he chose to kill, he would have a set of tools in order to kill them nearby and readily available.

 

Israel held admiration and obsession for other serial killers. Ted Bundy and Robert Hansen were a couple of his favorites. He is quoted saying “I probably know every single serial killer that has ever been written about. It’s kind of a hobby of mine.” In early 2012 he was caught and waiting for trial. During the period of wait for his trial to take place, he ended up taking his own life.

 


Joseph DeAngelo

 

This color is known as the golden state killer. He alluded capture from the authorities for more than 30 years. Up until the mid-1980s Joseph was committing violent acts in the Golden State area. It is sad that he has committed over 100 acts of burglary harmed more than 50 individuals, physically, and murdered more than a dozen. After more than 30 years of evading authorities, the golden state killer was caught due to new DNA analysis methods. He was sentenced to more than a dozen life sentences in prison.

 


The Chicago Strangler – Unknown & At large

 

There have been more than 75 women strangled to death in the Chicago area between the years of 2000 and 2017. A great deal of these victims were females of the African American descent. Not only this, but it is thought that around half of them were sex workers. This murderer is still at large, and no specific suspect has been named in 2023, as far as has been released to the public.

 


The Albuquerque Bone Collector – Unknown & Still out there

 

With the last known victim, being buried in 2005, a location in Albuquerque, New Mexico houses more than 10 remains of female sex workers from one murderer. This murderer is still unknown and out large and thought to be residing in the Albuquerque area. A man named Lorenzo Montoya lives inside of 5 miles away from the burial site of the murder victims. It is also sad that there have been dirt trails witnessed to lead up to his place of residency. In the year of 2006, he violently assaulted and strangled a teenager. The result of these actions was the boyfriend of the strangulation victim, shooting Lorenzo, and killing him on site. After this occurred, the burials of the Albuquerque, BoneCollector ceased to continue. This makes authorities think that Lorenzo was, indeed, the Albuquerque bone collector. However, this is not confirmed in any way, and it is very possible that the murderer is still out and about and free today. currently in the year 2023 there is a $100,000 reward for information that leads to the capture and imprisonment of this murderer.
